This design of Shakespeare In Love is set in the summer of Elizabethan England (1593,) with the play within the movie being set in the 1400s. The color story focuses on the gender bent nature of the Shakespearean work. Detailed trims and prints were a focus due to the nature of this being an exploration of film. Inspiration was drawn from paintings of the era and traditional handwork, such as black work embroidery.
